anticipated losses

when we don’t trust
someone to keep
loving us we bristle
when they disagree
with us our emotions
explode when we think
we have failed them we
get quiet and distant to
protect ourselves from
the pain of loss we are
sure is on its way we
find fault and point our
finger because blame
is more comfortable than
loss but what if we each
believed it were possible
for someone to keep on
loving us to be willing to
weather all of our storms
as well as their own what
if we felt all that we felt
but drew closer instead
