Dismantle the Dismantlement
The word “dismantle” originally meant to remove a cloak because cloaks used to be called mantles. Your cloak is what protected you from the cold, rain, and dirt. The purpose of the current administration’s attempts to dismantle our government is to remove that which protects democracy. This work used to be done secretly. You might say that those who did the work were wearing invisibility cloaks. Much of what they are doing is now out in the open. This is not the time to hand over our cloaks and freeze. We must hold tight to our cloaks and organize to stop this tide. Some of us will be menders. Some of us will cheer and encourage. Some of us will protect the vulnerable. Some of us will sharpen swords. Some of us will wield them.
