embodiment

when I pull a bit of errant cuticle
from my finger or a sliver of tough
skin from the bottom of my heel
and set it beside me while I finish
a page in my book it feels stiff and
lifeless when I pick it up as if it had
died without a connection to the rest
of me must absorb newly acquired
habits and spikes from my personal
evolution to keep them breathing so
I can be live within my own integrity
