like a child

there are days I wish
I were sitting in my PJs
eating overly sweet
breakfast cereal
in front of a TV full
of Saturday morning
cartoons or leaning
cheek pressed against
the backseat window
as my dad drives
us home in the rain
from my grandparents’
house but I’d never
waste a genie wish
that way I don’t want
to be young again
I just want to remember
what it felt like to trust
in everything when I
knew almost nothing
