sometimes old wounds
seem too painful to probe
we choose instead to turn
our heads toward new
conflicts we imagine we
can win or at least pour
our hidden rage upon maybe
this is a foolish pastime or
maybe it serves as our training
ground preparing us for the day
we stand ready to face those
enemies who dwell within
