Old Timers

Some of us are old. Not in-a-home old but old nonetheless. We’re more vulnerable than those younger than us. We’re also more acutely aware that the time we have is the time we have. The time we have left…however much that may or may not be. The time we are living in as different and the same as it may be to all the times that have come before it in our lives. We understand that the time after this time, if we make it there, will be whatever it will be. We’re willing to be mouthy and political to try to make a dent in preventing a total crash of all that is wholly desirable, of all that serves all of us. In some ways it’s easier for us to be brave about our choices right now. Yes, there are people counting on whatever wisdom we’ve gathered as we’ve walked. Yes there are people who are watered by our love, by our gaze landing on them to gently prod or applaud. But we know now more than we’ve ever known that these days and with luck the years to come are our final hours. Stand back because some of us are willing to truly start making them our own.
