the ugliest blanket
a wedding gift
from an elderly aunt
we joked it was made
out of dryer lint
I’ve always been able
to make a feast
out of leftover food
but these fibers were
castoff pieces
things no longer wanted
or necessary
since then I’ve learned
how to weave my own
castoff feelings
to fashion beautiful stories
