my mother sits in her
wheelchair as if upon
a throne as others take
care of all her needs she
may be content for the
very first time in her life
she gets to be the empress
she longed to be venerated
by everyone but she was
not up for being a saint
but maybe behind those
eyes that have always
hidden so much she’s
still afraid to come out
