Run-on Life Sentences
Somewhere my grandmother has been reborn and her name is Philomena, I don’t know why I think it’s Filomena maybe it’s George, anyway she’s in the bathtub or her head is leaning over a sink and her mother says to her, “Filomena it’s just as important to wash your head as your hair and she tells her about making sure to always scrub her scalp clean. Little Philomena feels a sense of déjà vu, meanwhile at the same moment or perhaps just before, I’m standing in my shower washing my hair letting the long strands soak up the shampoo then massaging and cleaning my scalp and smiling as I remember how my grandmother said to me that people tell you to wash your hair but they should say to wash your head because people forget to wash their scalp. She told me to always make sure I wash my head not just my hair. I smile and maybe I’m smiling at the exact same moment my grandmother does in her new life in her new body with the same spirit or maybe her spirit is simply smiling because she feels me loving her across time or should I say within time?
