taking the waters

the dark lower portion
of a lighthouse reminds
us waters rise and fall
floodwaters sign building
walls instead of guestbooks

a bookstore in Venice piles
its books in old bathtubs
not out of fear but because
they understand sorrows
will visit again and again

but for now they have
chosen to bathe in joy
