upon a time

once there was a sad story
about a child who was not
loved or maybe it was a
much sadder story maybe
the child felt loved but
was not maybe the child’s
neurons strung together
a bastardized definition of
love far from what we all
deserve and desire even
when we do not realize it
is missing though we feel
an emptiness following us
as close as our shadow
